We’re in the final of the Charity Film Awards!

Our animated film, The Littlest Hoglet, is in the final of this year’s Smiley Charity Film Awards!

Created with production company Liquona and narrated by environmentalist Chris Packham, The Littlest Hoglet series was released during Hedgehog Awareness Week 2024 and has now been made into a short film. The charming tale follows the misadventures of a young hedgehog who accidentally teaches us how to make our gardens safer, more welcoming spaces for hedgehogs.

Fay Vass, Chief Executive for BHPS, said: “We’re so excited that The Littlest Hoglet has reached the final for the Smiley Charity Film Awards– the Oscars of charity film! Huge thanks to everyone who voted for us and helped us get this far!

“The Littlest Hoglet is helping us spread the word about all the things we can do to help hedgehogs not only survive in the wild but to thrive. For it to be recognised by the film industry and seen by even more people means so much to us and our dwindling hedgehog populations!”

Hedgehog populations in the UK are in serious decline – and as they’re a great indicator species, if they are not coping well, it should ring alarm bells for other species, including humans.

The Aardman-esque film carries actions with hedgehog welfare in mind – perfect for sharing on social media, as part of a lesson plan or assembly. The series has gathered over 85,000 views on YouTube as well as a huge amount of positive audience interaction and shares online.

The winner of the Smiley Charity Film Awards will be revealed on 20th March 2025.

Watch it now and be inspired to make Britain hedgehog-friendly and help the littlest hoglets in your own neighbourhood!
